Avro Lancaster Bomber Avro Lancaster BIII, MG–A, JB 652, 7 Squadron, Oakington, Cambs.
Crashed at Wissett near Halesworth, Suffolk, 21st December 1943.
The pilot, Flying Officer Donald Field DFC, bravely stayed with the aircraft and managed to steer it away from the town of Halesworth potentially sparing hundreds of lives. A memorial to F/O Field´s bravery is erected in the Halesworth town centre.

489th Bomb Group Badge 489th Bomb Group. The 489th equipped with B24 Liberator bombers were based at Halesworth from May 1944 to November 1944. The motto of the group at the bottom of the badge reads "ex tenebris lux veritatis", meaning "Light is Truth out of Darkness".
